Duck-2-Water offer fully recognised RYA Day Skipper courses, both theory and practical, designed to give you the skills required to take full charge of a selection of vessels during short passages in tidal waters.
The RYA Day Skipper Theory course can be held over 5 days (Mon - Fri), or 6 days over three weekends, or approximately 22 weeks of 3 hour evening sessions. The course is applicable for both power and sail and is designed for those who wish to develop their theoretical knowledge, either before or after taking the Day Skipper Practical course.
This course is ideal for those who have already taken RYA Powerboat Level 2 or Motor Cruising Helmsman courses. It is also very useful for those considering taking the Day Skipper Practical course, as it will allow less of the practical course to be taken up with theory.
The Day Skipper Theory course encompasses aspects of safety, boat types, weather, navigation, charts, and collision regulations. It is entirely classroom based, and no prior experience is required.
The RYA Day Skipper Practical Motor Cruising (Tidal) course is taken over a four day period, which can either be consecutive days or alternatively over 2 weekends. An initial understanding and some previous experience on motor cruisers is required, including basic helmsmanship and navigation.
With expert guidance and instruction from a fully qualified professional RYA powerboat training instructor, our practical motor cruising courses are held at Southampton and various locations within the Solent area. In addition we also provide RYA Day Skipper own boat practical courses on the South Coast, for those wishing to learn on their own vessels rather than our motor cruiser.
The course will provide you with boat handling skills, pilotage, navigation and 'rules of the road', to enable you to skipper a boat in familiar waters in daylight.
Contact Duck-2-Water for further details on any of the Day Skipper courses.
